【拓展】whether和if的用法分析

whether和if都可以引导宾语从句,表示"是否",在口语或间接引语中两者可以互换使用。

►I wonder if/whether I can get some advice from you.

►Ask him whether/if he can come.

但在有些情况下,whether和if的用法有一定区别。

(1)whether引导的从句常可以与连词or或or not直接连用,而if一般不能。

正:Let me know whether you can come or not.

误:Let me know if you can come or not.

(2)当宾语从句提到句首时,只能用whether引导,而不能用if。

正:Whether it is true or not, I can’t tell.

误:If it is true or not, I can’t tell.

►It took us three years to complete the project. 我们花费三年时间才完成了这项工程。

(2)动名词作真正主语:It’s +n.(名词或名词短语)/adj.(形容词)+ doing sth.

►It’s a waste of time doing this. 这样做是浪费时间的。

that引导的是宾语从句,作动词show的宾语,宾语从句中包含了if引导的条件状语从句。

本句采用了It is + adj.+ for sb.+ to do sth.句型,It作形式主语,动词不定式to do sth.是真正的主语。

even if的意思是"即使,尽管",相当于even though。

unless的意思是"除非",引导条件状语从句,谓语动词使用一般现在时。

  1. Good learners will keep practicing what they have learned, and they are not afraid of making mistakes. 好的学习者将保持联系他们所学到的,并且他们不害怕犯错误。

keep的意思是"保持",常用于keep doing sth.结构中,表示"持续做某事"。

what引导的是宾语从句,作practicing的宾语。

be afraid of的意思是"害怕",后面跟名词、代词或动名词。be afraid to do sth.表示"害怕做某事"。

动词不定式to review...在句中作后置定语,修饰ways。

what引导的是宾语从句,作动词review的宾语。
